[ Inside ] The Mix with Phil Tan includes the Video Program, Pro Tools Sessions and online VIP Content. The VIP Content includes Streaming Videos that detail the mix of Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" and the mix of Anthony Hamilton's "The Point Of It All". So you get the best of both worlds, Phil Tan Mixing Rock, R&B and HOT 100!
[ Inside ] The Mix was shot with Phil Tan at Silent Sound Studios (silentsoundstudios.com) and Jermaine Dupri’s South Side Studios in Atlanta GA. We document the entire process of Phil mixing a carefully chosen rock ballad in a hybrid setup using Pro Tools HD, an SSL 4000G+ console, plug-ins and outboard/hardware processing; as well as tape and digital pre-master options.
The song Phil mixes in the Video Program is by Jacob Jeffries Band. It's ballad-like qualities and structure make it a perfect case study and represent several mixing challenges (like how to preserve / enhance the tension and the climactic experience of the song). But Phil performs the mix beautifully, with tasteful editing, processing and automation throughout.
You also get direct access to the well written, performed, recorded and mixed tune with tracks including: Full Acoustic Drum Kit, Electric Bass, Ambient Guitar, Steel Guitar, Crunch Guitar, Baritone Guitar, Vibro Guitar, Slide Guitar, Lead Guitar, Acoustic Piano, Lead Vocals, Harmony Vocals and three sets of layered Background Vocals.
Not only do we show you Phil mixing the song, we then go ahead and demonstrate multiple pre-master printing options. Like "with and without" the SSL Mix Buss, tape or "direct to disk" and several others. This way you get to learn the choices mixers have available to them in a modern hybrid studio and you get to decide which methods you like best.
All source files are included in fully mixed Avid Pro Tools sessions as well as Pro Tools Sessions of printed A/B stems that represent the various stages of the tracks, channels, equipment and final mix options - as shown and performed in the Video Program.
